Dance Program
Ballet Program
Ballet Studio E has a
pre-professional level program enjoyed by students who wish to persue
dance as a career and those who love it as a recreational activity.
Classes are geared to helping students excel and reach their highest
artistic potential. To ensure physical aptitude and that classes fit the
growing child appropriately, students wishing to continue after the age
of six must be evaluated/auditioned to determine suitability for further
study. More information on Ballet Studio E's Ballet Program can be
found on the About Us page.
Classes
The class descriptions below are by no means an exhaustive
description of lessons in any level.
Classes are divided into Pre-Ballet (I A, I B & II A, II B), Beginning
Ballet (I-III), Intermediate (IV-VI), and Advanced Levels (VII-IX)
Lil' Princess (age 3): A
ballet focused movement class for young ballerinas in training. Classes
focus on age appropriate motor skills, and explore students creativity
and critical thinking through mime, music, storytelling and art. French
language focus class. This class meets for 30 minutes once per week.
Students must be 3 years of age as of Sept 1st and be fully
toilet trained. This age group will be doing their year end performance
with costume in the studio, to help prepare them for stage performance
next year.
Pre-Ballet I A/B (children 4 & 5 yrs) Students are introduced to
rhythm exercises and gross motor exercises to develop musicality needed
in later training as well as strength and flexibility of the body. These
exercises are learned through repetition (the bread and butter of
ballet) and games. Goals also include the ability to follow directions,
stand in line, take turns, etc. French language focus.
Pre-Ballet II A/B (children 6 & 7 yrs) Students are being
prepared for their later ballet classes. Students focus heavily on
theatrical expression and mime. Focus is kept on previous gross motor
skills while building finer motor skills which will be essential to
success later in Ballet I. Coordination is worked on more thoroughly.
Students are also introduced to work in parallel positions with the
ballet barre. French language focus.
Beginning Ballet (Levels I-III) Students begin in Ballet Level I
when they are eight years old. Students begin work in classical ballet
positions while still working on flexibility, coordination and balance,
eventually moving on to the advanced beginning level in preparation for
intermediate training. Ballet Level II begins flexibility training
specifically designed to allow full range of motion while protecting
developing bodies. Ballet Level III begins Russian Floor Barre
technique, Core Stability, as well as Anatomy for Dance 1.
Intermediate Ballet (Levels IV-VI) The intermediate student
begins at level IV. It is typical and preferable in most cases, for
students to be in a level for two years prior to moving up. Students
chosen for pointe work will be at the teacher’s discretion. The latter
part of class is devoted to pre-pointe/pointe class. Level IV students
study Anatomy for Dance 2 and specific Pre-Pointe and Beginning Pointe
lessons. Level V studies Anatomy in Motion, while Ballet VI works more
thoroughly on somatics, as well as beginning to learn corps de ballet
variations from classical works.
Advanced Ballet (Levels VII-IX) More advanced work is given, with
emphasis on duet and solo combinations and artistry as well as student
choreography.
Performance Opportunities
Select students may be chosen at different times during the year to be
present/ perform at various venues throughout the Metro-Milwaukee area
from local parades to dance workshops and private performances.
These venues enhance students’ self-confidence and help to build their
overall performance quality. Ballet Studio E also presents a year end
show in which students participate. Students in the Lil’ Princess class
present an in-house performance for their families on their last day of
class. Parents are allowed to record their child’s performance, provided
they do not obstruct the view of others, and do not disturb the
performance environment.
